Solarwinds Platform Engineer
Next Ventures are currently executing a search for an experienced Platform Monitoring Engineer with exposure to SolarWinds Server and monitoring tools.
Platform Monitoring Engineer is required to enhance the implementation of the global monitoring tool. This is so that the applications and underlying components within the scope of the Risk Remediation programme can be monitored in-line with the clients system monitoring standards.
To ensure monitoring is achieved for applications and configuration items under the scope of the Risk Remediation programme, including:
§ Implementation of SolarWinds Server, Application, Database and Network Monitoring.
§ Assist in the overall management of the SolarWinds monitoring tool.
§ Take a lead in the configuration of the SolarWinds monitoring tool and advise and guide others regarding the use and application of the tool.
§ Ensure that the configuration items are set up with the required protocols, e.g. SNMP, WMI, SolarWinds agent so that monitoring can be achieved by facilitating change abiding to client internal change process.
§ Develop and maintain all project and technical documentation in accordance with analysis processes to ensure best practice.
§ Undertake problem determination and/or resolution to maximum quality of outputs/ deliverables.
§ Develop supporting project plans, including both high level and detailed estimating definitions as appropriate to support and inform the planning process.
§ Use the escalation process where necessary to resolve any issues/ problems promptly.
§ Produce concise and timely reports, free from material mistakes, to enable accurate business decisions to be made.
§ Work within the approach, framework and direction of the overall Project Management Office.
§ To carry out any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
§ Ensure that at all times company Policies, Standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are adhered to.

Considered to be an IT professional and hold current certifications relating to, operating systems, networking and monitoring tools.
Significant experience of working in a role managing monitoring tools (SolarWinds/ Nagios/SCCM). Be able to demonstrate value of using such tools.
Demonstrable track record of operating effectively in a dynamic, fast paced, challenging and delivery focused Project / Programme environments containing blended teams (e.g. permanent, contract, vendor, SI, Business/IT/operational teams, offshore)
Significant experience working with operating systems (e.g. Windows/Linux) and Virtualisation (VMware/Citrix) and network infrastructure and strong technical knowledge of various technologies and protocols,
Professional qualification relating to the management of infrastructure or application technologies.
Holds ITIL qualification at Foundation Level
The role is to be based in Herefordshire/ Essex borders :Close to and commutable from Cambridge.
The programme :
BIS Risk Remediation Project is accountable to remediate the clients Application and Infrastructure risk which is scored major and high on Heat Map assessment. The project is divided into four major task as per below.
• Redesign & Rebuild– In some instances the service may be considered to be end-of-life. Works to define and commence plan to rebuild in-house (bespoke solution)
• Improve Service Delivery Model – To ensure the system/service is fully understood and there is sufficient capacity and skills within the support teams. Improve the mechanisms used to manage the service and ensuring an adequate DR capability is in place.
• Migrate to Cloud / New Platform – Where there are platform risks, move the system/service to technology built in-line with our standards.
• Replace– In some instances the service may be considered to be end-of-life. Works to define and commence plan to replace with a different application (COTS solution).
Rate is £350.00 -£400 per day based on experience .
An immediate start is possible –candidates must be available for a December start at the latest
